‘Why don’t you just tell us what light really is?’ Easy-to-implement teaching materials that link quantum physics to nature of science

چکیده

Abstract High school students’ difficulties with quantum physics (QP) are partly due to their limited understanding of the nature science (NOS). The essence QP can only be understood informed views about NOS aspects such as role models and relevance controversies between physicists. Inversely, is an ideal topic for teaching NOS. However, secondary textbooks seldom support teachers explicitly address in QP. Drawing on a five year research program, including observations students teachers, we present resources that link Our materials active reflective learning activities, while being adaptable teachers’ individual needs affordances. We hope inspire lessons.

The Israel Theorem: What Is Nature Trying to Tell Us?

We explore the possible physical consequences derived from the fact that the only static and asymptotically-flat vacuum space-time possessing a regular horizon is the Schwarzschild solution (Israel theorem). If small deviations from the Schwarzschild metric are described by means of exact solutions to Einstein equations (as it should be), then for very compact configurations, at the time scale ...

What Observations Really Tell Us

When agents like mobile robots make observations while carrying out a course of actions, a formalization of the observed information is needed in order to reason about it. When doing so in the situation calculus, a seemingly straightforward approach turns out to be inappropriate since it leads to unintended results and has an unfortunate sensitivity with respect to different forms of successor ...

Lactate: What Does It Really Tell Us?

For much of the 20 century, lactate was largely considered a dead end waste product of glycolysis due to hypoxia ... and a key factor in acidosis induced tissue damage. Since the 1970s a lactate revolution has occurred. At present we are in the midst of a lactate shuttle era; the lactate paradigm has shifted. There is essentially unanimous support for a cell to cell lactate shuttle. The bulk of...

What does indirect calorimetry really tell us?

Accurate and sensitive assessments of energy expenditure (EE) in mice changes in the balance of gut microbial species could differentially are essential given their importance to research on the molecular mechanisms of energy homeostasis [1]. EE phenotyping in mice is widely available using state-of-the-art equipment in many laboratories, including those in regional centers in the United States...
